6 - [voice] Leaving the hospital for a bit

Guess the sun's finally back out. That's a bit of a relief, at least.  I'm heading over to check on the apartment and grab some extra clothes.

I'll be returning to the hospital soon though, since I don't want to leave Mai alone and [a soft noise of irritation] apparently there's some question revolving around my own ability to move around.  Whatever, I'm fine.  And I'll finally be getting this stupid chip out tomorrow.

[a pause--perhaps he forgot the communicator on again--and uneven footsteps as if with a bit of a limp, then the quiet jingle of keys for a few moments before...]


TOPH! What the did you do to my door?! I know it was you!

I see. I should meet her sometime, huh?

[Puts down what he's holding on the floor, then returns to the chipped old dresser he was pulling things out of and resumes looking for some spare clothes since he intends to stay at the hospital with Mai until she wakes up, and the less trips he has to take, the better.]

When Mai gets better. [there is a rather strong emphasis on the word "when", as if to banish all thoughts of "if"] You said they might get along, right?

Probably. She's a shy daisy. [He shrugs his shoulders and them blinks a few times before replying again.] That looks so cool.

[Stiffens suddenly, but explains a bit, doing his best to remain civil]

No. My father gave it to me, actually. Like I've said before, he wasn't much of a father.

[He looks away with a small sigh]

He challenged me to an Agni--uh, a duel for speaking out against his plan to sacrifice many soldiers' lives. I was thirteen.

[Crawls over to the dresser he saw Zuko playing in and started pulling clothing out as well.]

[Zuko blinks as Haru comes over to help him, but doesn't say anything about it. He's not really used to receiving help, or needing it for that matter, but right now it's actually welcome because his body is really starting to hurt from moving so much]

Yeah, but unfortunately, this place isn't a perfect world either.

Were you okay during the earthquakes?

Sure have weird taste in clothing. [ Chuckles a little to himself as he continues to help. He figured it couldn't be all that easy with a broken arm.]

Hey, Mai helped me get some supplies when I first got here. They're not exactly my style either, but we'll have to deal.

Oh, were you babysitting Elysia? She told me she was waiting for you while her father was gone.

The only clothes I had with me were completely ruined when [an almost indiscernable pause as he's getting more used to saying it] Mai and I were attacked.

[Finishing up, Zuko pulls out a worn-backpack that had somehow made its way into the apartment, starting to stuff the clothes inside]

I think we're almost done here. But I might need help getting this back to the hospital since I'll be carrying my swords too. [...and they were really starting to aggravate the wound on his back]

[ Giving Zuko a half worried half deadpan face As he helped stuff the clothes in the bag.]

[Looks over at Haru dubiously, kneeling by the dresser and holding the bag as the other helped him put his things away]

Do you know how to use them if we happen to need them?

[He hands it off to Haru, then stands up in readiness to leave, but perhaps a bit too quickly.

With a hiss of pain, Zuko's right hand flies to his opposite shoulder as the gash on his back throbs unpleasantly. He falls a little against the dresser, leaning on it to keep upright.]

OW. Shit...

[ He slung the bag over his shoulder and watched as Zuko fell back in pain. He sighed a little and walked over bending down a little.]

Put your arm around me. Unless you want me to carry you.

Urgh... Haa... I'm fine. Just... carry the damn swords.

[He shifts more of his weight onto the dresser, fingers uncurling from their white-knuckled grip on his injured shoulder as he tries to maneuver out of the sword strap.

Come to think of it, maybe it wasn't a brilliant idea wearing his swords on his back like usual when it was all torn up]

Here, help me...haa ...take them off...

[ Slowly he start tugging the straps free from him trying not to hurt him more than he already was. After a couple long minutes he pulled them off of Zuko and put them over his shoulder as well.]

Stubborn guy.

[Remains leaning back on the wood for a few more moments, catching his breath before venturing to stand on his own. His vision blurs a little but then recovers, and it seems okay now that the weight was off his body]

Thanks. [he mutters, reaching back gingerly to touch the top of the gash and make sure it wasn't open again, but considering it spanned most of his back he couldn't quite tell. With an irritated sigh, he turns back to Haru] Am I bleeding?

[Zuko gives him a half-hearted scowl but grudgingly mutters,] I've never really been good at that, actually.

[Holding on to the edge of the dresser, he takes an experimental step, brow furrowed in concentration]

I think I'll be ok if we walk slowly.

[ Haru grabs Zuko's arm that isn't injured and pulls it over his shoulder. He wasn't going to let the stubborn guy hurt himself anymore, at least while he was there.]
