[Zuko turns his communicator on, but there is only silence for a long time. He doesn't really know what to say. After a while, he speaks, voice quiet and flat.]

[And that's it. The communicator shuts off with a soft click.]

Nakama... It means friends, allies, comrades. Though for some it can have a deeper meaning and can be used to describe those that are important to you. Like family or very close friends who may as well be family.

I've been stuck in the hospital since I got here. So I've been passing time by reading or listening to the people here.

I don't blame you though. I spent far too long in the hospital myself, and the communicator's okay for entertainment when you're dying of boredom.

Yes. I spent some time in a prison called Impel Down. It's reserved for the worst criminals in our world.

Most of them are pirates, like myself. I was going to be executed.

Needless to say, this place isn't so bad for me. I'm alive and when I've healed, I'll be free...for the most part.

Yes. Commander of the Second Division, Whitebeard Pirates. My crew's Jolly Roger is tattooed on my back. It's my pride and joy.

I'm not going to tell you that I'm a 'good guy'. But I'm not as bad as most of them. Our crew follows a strict code. The Marines just aren't too fond of us because we refuse to follow their laws.

lol Zuko was a traitor for a while. Maybe they can relate. haha

In some ways, yes. Many of the officials are mindless dogs or wealthy bureaucrats.

The Marines even have some of the strongest pirates working under them against the rest of us. I was offered the position myself but declined.

Yeah, and Zuko totally gets the whole corrupt leader thing :|

You sound like you really respect your father.

I can understand why you'd decline such an offer. A government is set in place to serve the people's will and protect them. Hiring criminals is hardly an honorable thing for your soldiers to do.

You and I aren't much different by the sounds of it. Pops is what I call my captain. We're not related, but he's more like a father to me than my real one was.

The Shichibukai are those dogs I was talking about. The pirates hired by the Marines.

Many of my friends have been telling me not to worry and one of the ones who said it the most just died of the same thing you did.
