Does anyone here specialize in psychiatry or mental healing of any sort? A friend of mine isn't doing too well after some, uh, pretty bad stuff happened. Hohenheim, can you do anything like that?

I don't know... He's been really emotional, and he freaks out whenever someone tries to leave the house. He hallucinated recently too, and... he hasn't-- hadn't slept... in a long time.

...I've heard of it, but we have other types of healers too.

May I ask for specifics, Zuko? For example... how long has this been going on? A definition of "emotional" will be useful as well.

As much as I would like to give you quick answers, this field of Medicine is, shall we say, defined as soft Science, at best. Hasty judgments on my part may only lead to more complications for your friend. Long term ones, if I may add.

Yeah...

Since Sokka's death. He... he found the body and... Um, that was about two and a half weeks ago. But with those creatures attacking, I think it made him even more nervous.

He's afraid someone else will get hurt and gets angry and upset when we try to even step out of the apartment. It's really frustrating. Also, he was having a lot of nightmares, and then gave up sleeping entirely for several days in a row.

Um... you think you can help? Long term complications?

While I am no psychiatrist, I suppose I can assume your friend is suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. It would be careless of me to diagnose from hearsay alone, of course. There are medications-- Ah, let me rephrase that. In my world, medication for which some symptoms of that can be helped with exist. Those medications must exist here as well.

I would not so hastily recommend the use of medications. Such things have lasting side effects and may foster dependency. In a place such as Discedo, a dependency on medication of which a steady supply over a long period of time cannot be guaranteed will certainly be... unfeasible.

Therapy would be a preferable treatment.

Any. Especially if it brings such instant results, such dependency is only to be expected. Even a simple sleeping pill can cause a patient to eventually lose the ability to sleep naturally through repeated use... [ pause ] Medications commonly dispensed by Psychiatrists have a more significant effect than these pills.

It isn't my field, Zuko. I have no such credentials for practicing Psychiatry. However, I have studied it... though not enough to be considered a specialist... and practiced lightly. If you have no other option, then I can do what I can.

He wasn't sleeping and he was hallucinating and it was getting worse. I didn't know what else to do. I gave him some sleeping medicine but... I don't know if his sickness now is related... or just the sleep deprivation catching up to him. I didn't mean to make it worse.
