Okay, scientists. Not funny. I guess no one knows what happened?

[groan] Ugh, I have a headache.

Alright, anyway. I'm all healed up and sick of laying around. Who did I promise private sword lessons to? ~~Yuuri's gone...~~ Kid, did you find what you were looking for?

Figured I'd ask in private since you seemed kind of iffy about it. Do you still want me to teach you?

I taught some Earth Kingdom kid some things.

[he paused in an open area in the park, he pause, then in a second, his swords were drawn as he turned toward Katara]

Okay, so I'm best at dual-sword style, but you'll probably have a hard enough time finding one sword, let alone two. So we'll train with one, okay?

[and with that, he quickly flipped one of his swords, offering her the hilt]

[ it took a moment before she reached out to take the offered sword, it was a lot heavier than it looked. and sharp, mighty sharp there. ]

O-Okay...

[He caught the tremble in her voice]

Hey, it's okay. Here, hold it with both hands.

[He demonstrated, standing next to her]

And just hold it in front of you like this. We're just going to practice stance and straight downward strokes today.

[again, a demonstration: a quick swipe at the air in front of him]

[ she copies him, though it looks more like she's attempting to chop wood than anything. it's okay as long as she doesn't cut anything important off. ]

Is this how you cut down people?

[he winces a little]

If you're lucky, you won't have to do that. Especially not to people. But... yeah, I guess...

Um, smooth your stroke a bit. Like this.

[demo time!]

[ she's trying, though she's no idea if she's doing it right. ]

[well, the single sword won't settle too well in the sheath by itself, so he sticks it in the dirt for a minute, moving behind her. Slowly, hoping she doesn't mind--especially since she is holding a sharp sword right now...--he adjusts her arms, then places his hands over hers.]

Here, like this.

[ yes, the sharp sword is sharp, very sharp! Katara had been so focused on not slicing off a toe that she had barely realized Zuko had moved behind her until his hands came into focus and his voice somewhere above and behind. Surprised she is. ]

UWA!!--

[ --and naturally, somehow ends up jumping on something, possibly some toes, hitting her head on the one behind her in her jump and of course, tossing that sharp, heavy sword up a few feet in the air. ]

Gah!

[Good thing Zuko's senses are pretty sharp. Her head smacking into his chin like that distracted him a bit, but the sword quickly caught his attention again]

Watch out!

[Quickly wrapping his arms around her waist, he jumped back, pulling her with him out of the way while the sword landed harmlessly in the dirt near its twin.]

[ She's not quite sure what happened, but she's very glad to note that all her arms and legs are still in one piece and her head isn't split open like a watermelon. Still, that was a scary experience and oh hey, time to wriggle out of his arms and laugh nervously. ]

Hey, guess you did keep your word about not letting me get hurt! I hope every lesson doesn't get that exciting.

Thanks, Zuko. Your chin, okay?

[speaking of which, he was was rubbing his chin gingerly after quickly letting go of her.]

Ehehe... uh. Yeah. You have to be more aware of your surroundings, and relax more.

Oh. Yeah, I'm fine. Are you alright?

Ehehe, yeah, ...relax, right.

I'm fine. All still in one piece thanks to you. That was pretty quick!

[he shrugged, going over to pick up the swords]

I've had practice. And this place keeps me on my toes too.

[ she stands and pats herself clean for the lack of something better to do. ]

No kidding. I can't wait to show Sokka that I so can take part in his hunting group.

I'm ready to try again.

[nod]

Okay, hold it like this, and don't be so tense. I'll be adjusting you, so don't be startled, okay?

[ she nods and holds it the way he's showing her to. ]

All right. I promise not to jump this time.

[Again--more slowly this time--he moves behind her to position her arms and fix her stance. Placing his hands over hers, he guides her sword in a downward arc]

See? More like this... Don't think of it as something you're holding. Think of it as an extension of your arm, of yourself. It's kind of like Bending, in a way.

[ well, she keeps her word and stays calm while he fixes her grip. ]

Extension of my arm, huh? I have to admit, Bending is a lot more flexible than this.

Am I doing it right?

That's fine.

[Zuko stepped aside for a bit, watching, and continued to adjust her as needed. It would take time, but she had good instincts and definitely wasn't lacking in will. She would learn.]
